Retailers want your time to go to the toilet to “buy and buy”

In a survey conducted by British toilet paper brand Charmin in November, one-third of respondents stated that they would use the toilet time to process mail, read or shop. A survey of consumer behavior completed by PayPal at the beginning of the month also came to a similar conclusion. 15% of respondents said frankly that during the holidays, they would spend their toilet time shopping on their mobile phones or tablets.

Retailers keenly captured this opportunity. According to Bloomberg, Amazon and P&G launched a promotion called "Stall Mall" earlier this month. In New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Philadelphia, there will be items like toilet paper placed behind the doors of the restrooms. Consumers can use Amazons App scan code to buy and get discounts.

This promotion is just the tip of the iceberg, which is much milder than what happens next. Software engineers have developed some algorithms. You can tap the sensor data in your smartphone to determine if you are sitting, standing, walking, or sleeping at a certain moment.

With this tool, retailers can choose the right time to send you merchandise news. Perhaps soon, these algorithms can be fine enough to determine when youre going to the toilet. Then sell you the product information that suits you. So you know why Amazon Fire Phone puts so many sensors and cameras!

Considering that the time period for toileting is often very short (except for special circumstances, of course), retailers are optimizing the shopping experience for this scenario. Including the optimization of payment methods, try to make a one-click shopping. See here, Amazon receives "one-click shopping" patent fees will not receive soft hand.

James Ogden, professor of marketing at the University of Cookington, Pennsylvania, pointed out that the use of toilet shopping will be higher than the data shown in the survey report. In his class tests, he found that only 3 of the 30 students did not play mobile phones while in the toilet. In PayPals questionnaire survey, although the proportion was low, 61% did not receive feedback. He thinks it is possible that these people will use the mobile phone while using the toilet, but they are afraid that others will find it disgusting and they are reluctant to admit it.
