Consumer awareness of sustainable product identification rises
According to a survey released by the China Chain Store & Franchise Association recently, according to the survey of consumers’ green consumption awareness in first- and second-tier cities from 2015 to 2017, consumers’ awareness of sustainable product identification has increased. As awareness of energy efficiency labeling rose from 78% to 89%, green food awareness rose from 58% to 83%.
The survey was recently released at the "New Consumer Forum - 2018 China Green Consumers Annual Conference" hosted by the China Chain Store & Franchise Association. According to reports, the China Chain Store & Franchise Association, with the support of organizations such as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), established the China Retail Sustainable Consumption Roundtable in 2013. The round table consists of large-scale retail and catering companies and professional institutions in the sustainable sector. Key tasks include sustainable supply chains, sustainable operations, and sustainable consumption.
“The main content of sustainable consumption is consumer education. Retailers are dealing with consumers every day, what products and services are provided, and what information is provided, which affects them subtly,” said Liang Liang, president of the China Chain Store & Franchise Association. Promoting “trusted consumption” and greening of lifestyles is one of the key points for chain associations to lead the green development of the industry.
Relying on retail outlets in major cities, the China Retail Sustainable Consumption Roundtable organizes the Sustainable Consumption Promotion Week every year. In 2013, the participation ranged from 4 cities to 80 stores. In 2017, it expanded to 120 cities and 1,500 stores.
